Malawi Educational Complex
MALAWI
ARCHITECTURAL INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

International ideas competition whose project objective is to provide a better education to the youngest citizens of the country, giving them the opportunity to access a decent school infrastructure.
A sustainable building complex with a strong imprint based on local materials and construction systems is proposed.

The project sets itself around a cultural area destinated to embrace educative, social, commercial and cultural activities. The fact that this area is opened or ‘’undetermined’’ is not casual, the culture of Malawi, which consists of traditional dances, musical events and social meetings, takes place always in open air spaces, never inside buildings. And we see this as a key value to maintain and hold.

We decided to enhance the cultural opened area by organizing the educative compound around it and, through its shape, act as wind shield so activities can be developed with a stable air flow, controlling and redirecting the winds coming from the lake.

A radial pattern of expansion with its centroid in the cultural area. The pattern contracts its offsets distances as the distance from the centroid increases generating programatic orbits with diffrent programatic potentials.

The hexagonal pattern with its centrepital organization has an interleaved (on the orbits) and progressive (on the vectors ) organization of its elements, with big and small hexagons one next to each other.
